Oracle

Oracle explores the dichotomy of atmospheric ambiance and more typical electronic dance music. The point was to attempt to execute my previously usual style of composition the way I approach musique contrète. The resulting piece seems to me like a somewhat simple yet interesting evolution of style.

Largely based on two of the four criterias of electronic music of Karlheinz Stockhausen's, namely the equality of tone and noise and multi-layered composition, the piece was first meant to be composed in 5 channels. The decision to change it was made to be able to work more easily on the bus and subway.

Oracle was made using field recordings from a Tascam DR-07X, analogue synthesis from a custom Doepfer A-100 and a MakeNoise Shared System, and mixed in Concordia's Marcell Electroacoustic Studio.
